Make a Difference

Give back to your community when it really counts. Every day, members of the North Syracuse Fire Department (NSFD) help people during emergencies. We are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, sons and daughters who share the same common goal.

Action

Few places offer the excitement of a fire house. As a firefighter, you will respond to alarms, drive and operate fire apparatus, extinguish fires, climb ladders, and use power tools. You will be involved in the rescue of victims from fires, motor vehicle collisions and other rescue situations. You will also provide medical assistance to citizens in need. Be a part of the action while solving problems, helping your friends and family, and most of importantly, serving the community.

Experience

Firefighters learn the tools, skills, and techniques necessary to effectively respond to emergency situations through a training program taught by experienced certified instructors. Learn discipline and teamwork, while developing leadership skills that can be applied to all aspects of your life.

Connections

The NSFD is comprised of professionals from all trades, including: medical professionals, mechanics, school teachers, electricians, plumbers, scientists, fire fighters, police officers, 911 dispatchers, artists, IT professionals, and much more.

LOSAP - Retirement

The Village of North Syracuse, Town of Cicero and Town of Clay all participate in the Volunteer Firefighter Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP). This program awards members for their service to the community with a retirement income based on years of service.

Life Insurance

North Syracuse Fireman's Association offers a no cost $10,000 life insurance plan that covers each member both on and off the fire ground.

NYS Tax Incentives

Volunteer firefighters in New York State are eligible for either an income or property tax credit.

Requirements

You must be 18 years of age, and live or work in the North Syracuse fire district. All equipment and training are provided by the department. You put in the time and the willingness to learn, and we will take care of the rest.
