Life Saving Award
On May 16, 2018 The North Syracuse Fire Department and NAVAC Ambulance responded to a call for a reported unconscious person on Bear Road. The initial dispatch reported that the person was not breathing and was considered a full arrest.
Upon arrival the Fire Department was met by NAVAC Ambulance who reported the patient was in cardiac arrest. North Syracuse FD combined with the efforts of NAVAC ambulance and provided advance life support care which included intubation and other cardiac arrest interventions. The patient was moved to the waiting ambulance and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital. During the transport the Fire Department provided additional personnel who assisted the ambulance as they continued ALS care.
The patient was turned over to St. Joseph’s Hospital Emergency Room. After several weeks of monitoring and rehabilitation the patient was released from the hospital care and returned home.

On December 17, 2018 The North Syracuse Fire Department and NAVAC Ambulance responded to a call for a reported unconscious child at the North Syracuse Junior High School. The initial dispatch reported a teenage child down, unconscious and not breathing.
Upon arrival the Fire Department was met by a school resource officer who reported the male was a possible full arrest. North Syracuse FD combined with the efforts of NAVAC ambulance provided advance life support care which included intubation and other immediate care interventions. The patient was moved to the waiting ambulance and transported to Upstate Pediatric Hospital.
After several weeks of monitoring and rehabilitation the child was released from the hospital care and returned home.
